Insightful, informative and engaging-our first ever visit to BIM Show Live
In the past two years, we here at Airedale have been making significant progress in our own BIM journey. BIM (Building Information Modelling) is revolutionising the way commercial projects are being both designed and delivered, with commercial kitchen design an integral part of this. Since our BIM Manager joined us in July 2018, there has been a real focus on the “I” part of BIM, specifically on building the content/families within COBie. If anyone is unsure about what COBie is and its role within BIM, there is an excellent if not slightly technical article found on the NBS website, linked here.
BIM should not be seen as simply being a 21st century evolution from 2D, AutoCAD layouts and drawings, it is far more in depth and revolutionary. This and the focus on the “I” or data were reoccurring themes at this year’s BIM Show Live, which our BIM and Marketing Managers attended for the first time ever. The two day event, held at the famous Boiler Shop, which in its original guise played an essential role within the Industrial Revolution, was packed full of seminars, workshops and networking. Particular highlights included the “State of the Nation” address by leading architectural practice and early adopters Space Group, with the overall message being one that BIM should be used to break down barriers and engender collaboration rather than fuel a “us vs them” mentality that can be found throughout the construction industry and undoubtedly many others.
We found the event very informative, with everyone clearly passionate about BIM and how it can benefit both the industries those in attendance work within or for and society in general. Our own progress in our own BIM journey was supported and encouraged by all we met and with a number of exciting initiatives in the pipeline, we remain resolute in our belief that BIM will deliver real, tangible change. BIM will be a regular focus for the remainder of 2020 and beyond, so please follow us on both our Twitter and LinkedIn pages where all blogs and updates will be posted.
