Freeman Hospital Restaurant
Newcastle Upon Tyne
- Showcases “Made In Britain” design & manufacturing capability
- Latest Hospital design project for Airedale
- Upturn in both Staff and Visitor footfall

This project, which was valued at over £200k, was completed in the summer and is the latest project delivered by the Group for NHS Hospitals. It is therefore particularly apt that in the NHS’s 70th anniversary this project showcases our country’s manufacturing talents. The bespoke servery counters were all manufactured by our preferred specialist partner Proline whilst all of fabrication and Cold stores were manufactured by our in-house Caterform and Airedale Cold Stores divisions respectively, over 90% of this project is truly Made In Britain.
Particular challenges include the Restaurant’s basement location and the fact that the project was delivered in a live Hospital environment in what is one of the North East’s busiest. Deliveries had to be before 8am in the morning and our project teams could only work in the afternoons and evenings. To reduce noise, Airedale Cold Store’s refrigeration units were all located remotely. Working in close partnership with all the stakeholders enabled our in-house project and installation teams to deliver the project on time and within budget.
