Marble Hall in Derby is an iconic, Grade II listed building that was once the main factory for Rolls-Royce Engineering, which still has a major presence in the city to this day.   Unfortunately after Rolls-Royce had vacated Marble Hall in the 2000s, the building had fallen into disrepair and had remained in that state until Derby City Council and the city’s start-up business service Connect 4 secured over £4m of funding to revamp it, transforming it into both a hub for new businesses and the local community.    The whole site behind the building where the old factory was located has been bulldozed and will over the coming years be regenerated into a major new housing and mixed development.

The Airedale Group nurtured a close working relationship with the appointed main contractor’s Heritage division and worked in harmony with them and Derby City Council to design and install a brand new training kitchen to be used by both the local community and disadvantaged students from across Derbyshire and the East Midlands.    The training kitchen serves the on-site cafe for the use of the start-up businesses.

Overcoming the challenges of working in a Grade II listed building and remaining sensitive to the history of the building, The Airedale Group successfully delivered this training kitchen within the allocated budget and timescale; combining Electrolux Professional and British built Foster Refrigeration as well as utilising our own manufacturing divisions for the Ventilation system and fabrication.

The Heritage Manager for the main contractor comments ” Airedale have a great can-do attitude, are willing to help and have a great understanding of their trade and working on Heritage sites, meaning they are prompt at problem solving.”
